On a personal note here is my Tropical Storm Irma Update

You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting this past week. Thank you for your emails of concern asking how we were here – I caught up on emails yesterday and I’m hoping to be back on track with new posts and my Newsletters next week.
Here in the east corner of Georgia we were hit pretty hard by what once was Hurricane Irma. While it was a tropical storm by the time it reached us, it still packed a wallop for us here in the  mountains. Habersham County experienced wide spread power outages and tree damage. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but we are a small rural county and we had over 25,000 plus outages and still have over 12,000 to repair as of last nights HEMC update.
While we were extremely lucky to only have this type of damage it is taking a while to get us back up and running again. The line men and others have been diligently working on getting power back and I’m grateful to all those who have come in from other areas and states to help us here in Georgia. I’m extremely grateful for all the hard work and long hours they have put in. It is dangerous work.
I’m thankful our daughter joined us from South Georgia in the wee hours of Saturday morning so we were all under one roof. (You know how we moms worry.)
We were also blessed with lower than normal temperatures, so our “camping” was not unpleasant. However, I’m happy to say we were lucky and got power on late Thursday night, but many are still without. One forgets how reliant we are on power.
We ate meals out of our thawing freezers using the grill and I quickly learned how to “perk” coffee with a tea kettle and strainer! After all it’s the little things right?
The images are heart breaking that I’ve seen and don’t know where to begin or to put my thoughts into words, we’ve had family and friends in Houston and now in Florida.
Our hearts go out to those who are affected by this storm – know you are in my thoughts and prayers as you begin recovery.
