4th of July Work of Art

Were celebrating the 4th with a good old fashioned family cookout here in Clarkesville and it looks like the weather will be perfect for it. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again and getting to meet new family members too. Some we haven’t seen in years, along with marriages and babies. What fun.

And since it is the fourth of July I thought it would be fun to do a little something for the kids. So I’ve put together this fun bucket of items for each family.

Work of Art 4th of July Bucket (2)

And created this cute little tag that I attached to it with our Metallic Silver Baker’s Twine (132142) that is part of our Weekly Deals this week.

What do you think? Cute? I’m hoping these will be a hit with everyone since it contains a little something fun for all ages that can be used all day and even until the fireworks!

Work of Art 4th of July Bucket (1)

What’s inside? Well I’ve got some bubbles, a beach ball for the pool, bug boxes for catching the fire flies, glow sticks, sparklers, poppers, and other goodies for the evening.

I’ve got the one done – now just to put the others together. LOL Larry’s got a big family!

Home improvements – oh my!

Today I thought I would also share with you what I’ve been doing lately with my free time. I think I’ve shared with you I’ve had the home improvement bug this spring, my love of painting trim….. and so the projects continued.

Larry and I have “discussed” painting the stairs for years, or should I say I have. He just didn’t think it was necessary and I thought it would be a big help to protect the pressboard and make cleaning easier too.

Well on June 3rd I decided I’d jump in. I’ve never painted stairs so I was a bit intimidated, but after reading up on it I figured what the heck – it couldn’t be that hard, right?

I tried stain first at the suggestion of my sister, unfortunately it didn’t cover up all the spots that had been created from spills over the years. And apparently my brain wasn’t functioning well either, because I didn’t think of solid color stain that the gal at Home Depot had recommended before I started to kilz. Oh, well. I guess paint was meant to be.

So here is the first picture I took – Seems I always forget to take the before photo – caulked, Kilzed, and first coat of trim.

Stairs (2)

I know it looks a little strange with only part of the stairs done to this point, but I figured I wanted to see how it went. And I wanted to get the color on the tread to see how I liked the color we chose to go with the wood landing. LOL – Like I’d have a choice once I started.

The biggest challenge was making the stairs usable since my guys are always up and down them and of course my classroom is downstairs too. I sure didn’t want to go long without getting to stamp!

Stairs (3)

So I learned if I started first thing in the morning they’d be dry enough for everyone to go up and down when they got home and the trash and dirt from their shoes would not stick. (It seemed to rain a lot so going around wasn’t really an option Johnathan wanted to deal with.)  I also did every other step and added the green paper to keep things clean.

Here is the finished project now after I finished all the touch ups and door trim this week. Yea!

Stairs (4)

Painting the stairs really brightened up the space and I really love the look. They are so easy to clean now!

However, I am still thinking about stamping on the risers. I’ve had this great two step stamp set I’ve always wanted to use for that, but for now I’ve got other things on my list I want to do first.

Stairs (1)

Everyone who has been to my classroom before noticed the new look immediately and made my day by commenting about how great they looked. Thanks guys!

Funny thing is my husband, Larry asked me what took me so long to paint the stairs! (He’s a hoot.) They don’t squeak any more which is the part he loves. Of course that means my “alarm system” for the kids is gone since I always knew when someone was coming up the stairs. I’m not sure what made them stop creaking and squeaking, but I’m glad my husband likes the end result too. Now I’ve just got to get him to put trim up where the concrete and sheet rock meets. That little space drives me nuts. After all who knows what can live in that space – eek!

Beach Bag Post it Note Holder

Today’s project is the little gift everyone received who attended my Luau Catalog Launch Party – it was my was of saying thank you. After all I appreciate each and everyone of you!

Beach Bag Post It Note Holder Luau Catalog Launch Party 2014 (1)

I had a lot of fun making these little beach bags. As I mentioned yesterday I just love anything nautical and so the Maritime Designer Series Paper was perfect for this project.

Beach Bag Post It Note Holder Luau Catalog Launch Party 2014 (2)

My little Pool Party sticky notes came from my local dollar store. I squeeled when I found these little pads since they were just the right color LOL.

Do you ever see Stampin’ Up! colors while you are shopping and looking at things? My daughter is always rolling her eyes at me when I say it is such and such color.

The sticky notes are about 1/2 the thickness of the typical stack of post it notes – so you can just use 1/2 of pad of the name band ones if you’d like.

Want to know how I made these? Well here is my latest video tutorial for you so you can make them too. It’s a little longer than normal since I’ve got some helpful tips along the way.

Enjoy!

Beach Bag Post it Note Holders Video Tutorial:

Stop back by tomorrow when I’ll be sharing some more pictures and another recipe from the Luau with you.

Something for Baby Treat Sack

Are you ready for my first video tutorial using the NEW 2014-2015 Annual Catalog items? Well it’s here and in it I’ll be sharing with you the cute little treat sack that they showed us how to make during the Catalog Premiere along with the set I won during prize patrol. They are quick and easy to make.

Something for Baby Treat Sack

This little project uses one of our NEW Bundles from the Catalog – Something for Baby (page 74) and the coordinating Baby’s First Framelits (136790/136791). I love the bundles we offer, since not only do you save 15%, but it makes cutting things out a snap for this project!

And this little treat sack is created using just one piece of 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ Designer Series Paper from the Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack (133701). How great is that just pull one from the stack? No waste and tons of patterns to choose from since we have two new stacks to choose from in the new catalog!

Want to see how I did it? Well here is my Something for Baby Treat Sack Video Tutorial

While I’ve made this little treat sack with a baby theme in mind – I think it is a great little item for all kinds of occasions.

What do you think? easy?

Thanks for taking the time to leave me comments. They are really encouraging to me.

Supplies:

Stamp Set: Something for Baby (134027/134030)

Peachy Keen & On Film Framelits

Did you know that the Occasions Catalog is ending on Sunday, June 1st? Well it does, and so today I thought share with you some projects that I made using the bundle (135224/135225) of products along with some of the other items you’ll find in the Occasions Catalog.

This first project is a 3d box that I made and filled with some chocolates for a friend as a thank you. The little gable box holds quite a bit of chocolate too which is always a plus when it comes to chocolate LOL.

Peachy Keen 3d

To create the focal point on this box I first stamped my heart image from the Peachy Keen stamp set (133110/133113)  in Real Red (126949) and then used my VersaMark Pad (102283) and the Pool Party Embossing Powder (129398). The polka dot pattern came from the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack (132996).

This next card is one of my Shoebox Swaps

Peachy Keen Leadership swap

I really love the little bow we made using the 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon (132140). All I did was cut one end to expose the thread and pulled a couple off to use for this project. Cool, huh?

And this last card was also made with the On Film Framelits (132969) along with the Happy Watercolor stamp set (133188/133191). I stamped my image onto Very Vanilla Card Stock (101650) and placed my photo frame cut from Pear Pizzazz card stock (131201) on top. Added a bit of our Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape (133000), a Very Vintage Designer Button (129327) and a piece of Gold Bakers Twine (132975) that I placed through the button and tied a knot in.

Happy Watercolor Leadership swap

I really love the little pop of color that our Brights Candy Dots (130931) added the Banner Punch (133519) pieces too.

Stop by tomorrow when I’ll be sharing some cards made with the Hello, Sailor stamp set.

Eggstra Spectacular Easter Basket

Check out this cute little Easter basket I made to put some goodies in for friends this Sunday. Isn’t the little bunny image too stinking cute?

Eggstra Spectacular Easter Basket (1)

I think it turned out nicely and it will hold quite a bit. I’ve got some cute little note pads and pens to place inside along with a little bit of chocolate.

I used the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper to create the little “basket” along with the Eggstra Spectacular Stamp Set.  I used my Blender Pen and colored the bunny with Smoky Slate and a little Calypso Coral to highlight the dotted lines. (Blender Pens (102845) and your Classic Ink Pads are a quick and easy way to add color to any image.)

I wanted a little more color so I sponged the outside of the circle with Daffodil Delight. Popped it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then added it to my scallop circle that I had already paper-pierced.

I didn’t have the color ribbon on hand that I originally wanted to use, so instead I added color to the ribbon that I had, the 7/8″ Cotton Ribbon.  I think it turned out rather cool using the coloring technique that I used, Faux Dipped Die.

Eggstra Spectacular Easter Basket (2)

Eggstra Spectacular M&M Carrot Treats

Have you seen the new Carrot Cake M&Ms on the shelf right now for Easter? Well when I saw them last month they really peaked my interest – after all a Carrot Cake M&Ms, that sounds interesting. I figured they could taste really good or really bad right?

Well the bag didn’t sit on my counter long before someone broke them open. The soft colors are really pretty for spring and based on how quickly they disappeared among my clan I’d have to say the vote was that they were pretty good. So out I went to find another bag for this project! LOL

Eggstra Spectacular 3d Carrot M&M treat (3)

Here is what I came up with after playing around a bit. Of course since they were carrot cake it had to be carrots, right? And I knew that I wanted to use the Eggstra Spectacular Stamp set from the Occasions Catalog – I just love this little set!

I dug though my cabinet and found my cake decorating bags since I figured they were carrot shaped.

Eggstra Spectacular 3d Carrot M&M treat (1)

I wanted the top to be Gumball Green so I could use the Stitched Satin Ribbon that I love to work with so I debated for a bit on how to accomplish that, but since I wanted the top to be soft like the M&Ms I ended up reaching for my Gumball Green Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill and my Crystal Effects. What the heck it was worth a try.

I started by simply placing a quarter sized spot of Crystal Effects on my pallet and mixing in a few drops of Gumball Green Reinker. I mixed well until I got the color I wanted and applied it to the outside of my bag using a paint brush and allowed it to dry really well. I found a thicker layer was better for my tastes. (Tip: you’ll want to do this on the outside of the bag – not the inside, since some might break off while you fill it or you take the candy out.)

For the focal point I used the images from the Eggstra Spectacular stamp set and colored them as desired. I punched out the image with a 1 3/4″ Circle Punch and placed that onto a circle I cut using the Circles Collection Framelits, and then layered that onto a 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle on which I had paper pieced the scallops. Placed some Linen Thread through one of the holes and tied a knot creating a loop for later.

Eggstra Spectacular 3d Carrot M&M treat (2)

When I was ready I filled the bag with M&Ms and wrapped a piece of Gumball Green 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around the bag, slipped the ribbon through the loop on my tag and finished my bow. Voila! Here is my first Carrot Treat:

Eggstra Spectacular 3d M&M Carrot Treat (5)

Then I got to thinking – I just got my Fringe Scissors in and so started to play a bit with the top. Here is what that one ended up looking like.

Eggstra Spectacular 3d Carrot M&M treat (4)

This is one of the first bags I had added the Crystal Effects mixture to and so the color layer wasn’t as thick. But I think the Fringe Scissors adds some whimsy and makes it look a little more realistic.  (Tip: you’ll want to do this on the outside of the bag – not the inside since some might break off while you fill it or s you take the candy out.)

What do you think?  Which carrot do you like best? Why not leave me a comment and let me know. I love hearing from you and appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Supplies:

Stamp Set: Eggstra Spectacular (133068/133071)

Inks: StazOn Jet Black Pad (101406) and Smoky Slate Classic Stampin’ Pad (131179)

Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder Tutorial

As you know I love to make 3d items and this week’s project is a little gift I’m making for my daughter’s friends at college. When I saw the new Sour Patch gum from Stride on a recent trip to town I just knew I had to come up with something.

Stride Gum for Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder (1)

Screams Daffodil Delight, right? And I immediately saw that it would coordinate with our Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper from the Occasions Catalog and of course, I’ve been itching to do more stamping with the cute little Eggstra Spectacular stamp set too!

So here is what I came up with –

Stride Gum for Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder (2)

Wonder where I got the Scallop Oval? I’ll show you how I made this in my video – you won’t believe how simple it is!

And I’ve got two Video Tutorials to share with you today!

Not one, but two you may ask? Why?

Well, I ended up doing a fun technique with the image and thought you’d like to see how it was done too. And since my internet is a little funky out here in the sticks, shorter videos are a bit easier to upload for me when it’s windy. (Don’t ask – crazy I know!)  I figure streaming is easier for you too – right? Less buffering, etc. LOL

Do you like shorter videos or would you prefer to see just one longer video? Leave me a comment and let me know what you prefer. I always love to hear feedback from you – it also helps me know if someone is out there in cyber land listening – lol!

Watch the Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder Video Tutorial firsts to see how you make and assemble the treat holder itself.

Then watch my Two Tone Embossing Technique Video to see how the focal point is created with our fun colors of Stampin’ Emboss Powder!

Here is the supply list for the project –

Supplies:

Stamp Set: Eggstra Spectacular (133068/133071)

Inks: VersaMark Pad (102283)

Paper: Watercolor Wonder Series Paper Stack (132994), Daffodil Delight Card Stock (119683), Calypso Coral (122925), and Whisper White Card stock (100730)

Slip Free Yarn Hangers

Today’s post is one that is a non stamping project, but I thought you may enjoy it. Lately I’ve had several people ask me to share how I make these Slip Free Yarn Hangers that I’ve made for family and friends. So I thought to myself it would be easier to show you with a video tutorial.

DSC01096

These slip free yarn hangers are easy to make, use up those left over skeins I’ve got laying around the house, and keep my hands busy so I don’t snack while watching TV at night! (My weight loss program at its finest since late night snacking is a tough one for me – LOL)

My daughter has recently discovered the benefits of these after she took her batch that I made as a Christmas gift to college. No more tank tops on the floor of her college closet. She has recently said to me  “These are great. Can you make me another 20?”

So I’m looking for more of those wire hangers. The biggest problem I have is finding two that are the size shape and size hiding in my stash.

Hope you enjoy my tutorial. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. And if you make some – why not share your creations with me on my Facebook page? I’d love to see your slip free yarn hangers!

Yesterday I shared with you the card that we made during my Sale-a-bration Saturday event and today as promised I’ll be sharing with you the little treat that everyone received.

Starburst Sayings Mini File Folder Treat Holder

When I saw this idea I just knew I wanted to make my own treats – and as you know I love to make treats for family and friends.

And since these cute little Mini File Folder Treat Holders are a lot fun to make I couldn’t resist giving them to my attendees this past Saturday.

I created these little Mini File Folder Treats using the Starburst Bundle (134817/134818) from the Occasions Catalog (on page 34). Our bundles are great since when you purchase both the stamp set and coordinating item such as a punch or Framelits together you’ll get a 15% discount!

On a personal note, if you don’t live locally you may not know that we are gearing  up for some severe winter weather. If you live locally, you know exactly what that means here in North Georgia – and it gets kind of crazy.

So I though I would share what we woke up to this morning.

This first one is of our yard – you can see the tire tracks from my son’s four wheeler. He told his dad he was just running to get his coat! My husband that that this was the long way around running down stairs to get his coat – LOL

So this was 7 a.m. this morning.

Snow Storm Feb 11 2014 Chewie (3)

Here is a photo of Chewie, our eldest four legged child. She is on her “perch” watching the snow fall and all those pesky birds again – I’m sure you can hear her again in today’s video. Oh well, I’m not sure what I’m going to do about that when I video the next time – LOL.

And here is the view just a few minutes ago of our oak tree next to the house. As you can see the snow is really starting to pile up on those branches, and for those of us who live in the south you know what kind of trouble that can mean. Especially for all those pine trees along our power lines. This mornings prediction was up to 6 or 7 inches in my area, but the biggest problem isn’t the snow – right now were still above freezing and you can hear the gutters running. Our biggest worry is the ice that is suppose to follow this tomorrow.

So that being said – I do plan on posting, however depending on my power and internet situation which is already giving me fits …….. well, you get the idea.

Hope everyone stays safe and warm in their homes this go round. And for those wonderful DOT and public safety jobs who have to be out – I’ll be saying a little prayer for you. My husband is one of those that’s on call 24/7 so I’m hoping that there’s very little need for them this time.
