“Pop” goes the Punch Latch

When a latch from your punch pops out it can be quite explosive – but no worries, there isn’t anything wrong with the punch AND you can pop that latch right back in so you can lock it once again for storage.

I filmed this tutorial a while back and it has gotten “lost” on my computer. Sigh, does that ever happen to you? Oh well, the good news is I’m sharing it with you today!

Papillon Potpourri File Folder Card

Yesterday was such a crazy day that I didn’t realize until late last night that I hadn’t posted the project I wanted to share with you. How crazy is that?

So I’ll just share the project with you today – so here  it goes.

This file folder card using the Papillon Potpourri stamp set is one that I made at a demo meeting recently. It uses one of my favorite Designer Series Papers, Afternoon Picnic. The subtle colors and vintage patterns of this paper just make me feel good and feel like spring is right around the corner. And with the couple of days of pretty weather we had recently I’m ready for spring to arrive soon.

Papillon Potpourri File Folder card

Want to know how I made this card? Check out my earlier post sharing my Video Tutorial for my File Folder Card #4 to show you how. You’ll see it’s the same basic card but the colors chosen give it a completely different feel.

Language of Love

What do you do when it cold or rainy outside? And it’s been that way a lot here in North Georgia – it’s winter after all. I don’t tend to get cabin fever like the rest of my family – for some reason this type of weather makes me want to bake!

blueberry buckle

Yep, I said bake. I love the way it warms up the house and enjoy smelling all those wonderful aromas as I bake. Not that my family complains – they’ve got a freezer full of goodies now.

So today I thought I would share with you one of our favorite recipes for coffee cake that uses the blueberries from the yard. Blueberries are soooo easy to grow and once they get going they give you LOTS of berries.

Freezing the extras is really easy too. Just rinse them off, lay them out on a cookie sheet, dry and pop them in the freezer. (This lets them freeze individually so that you can just pull a few out at a time.) Then place them into bags or containers. I’ll find my containers partially emptied at times, since Larry and our kids love snitching from the containers LOL. A little taste of summer year round!

blueberry buckle piece

Blueberry Buckle

Topping:

½ c. brown sugar

1/3 c. flour

½ tsp. cinnamon

¼ c. butter, softened

Mix topping ingredients together and set aside until batter is finished.

Batter:

2 c. flour

2 tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

¾ c. sugar

¼ c. shortening

1 egg

½ c. milk

2 c. (1 pint) blueberries, washed and drained

Mix together sugar, shortening and egg. Stir in milk. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add to shortening mix. Fold in blueberries. Spread batter in greased and floured 8×8 inch pan. Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 – 50 minutes.

Fresh blueberries are best, however you can use frozen. If frozen, do not rinse, as they will turn batter blue – just gently turn into the batter. A few extra minutes may be needed for bake time when using frozen berries. Just check for doneness with a tooth pick.

You can see one of our favorite recipes for fresh blueberries that I share with you last summer by clicking HERE.

Anyhow you want to see the Language of Love stamping project, right?

Here is a card that I received during Leadership that uses the Language of Love and So Very Grateful stamps sets from the Occasions Catalog. Karin shows another way to use the Language of Love stamp set to create a thank you card – it’s clearly not just for Valentine’s Day.

Language of Love Leadership Swap

I am hoping you can see it – but there is a torn edge on the floral pattern of designer series paper that adds interest and texture to this card.

Luau Punch Art

Yesterday I shared with you the first party invitations I created for my daughter’s luau themed graduation. Today I’ll share with you the final item I created for her to choose from my luau punch art card.

Punch Art Luau Invite (1)

This card is actually 5″ x 7″ since I couldn’t get it down to the traditional 4 ¼” x 5 ½” like the others from yesterday. But since it was just the front and not a full card I was ok with that too. The My Digital Studio graduation announcements I made with the Embark Graduate Ensemble (click HERE) were post cards that were 5″ x 7″ also.

Want to know which of the four cards I made for her she chose? Drum roll please…… She narrowed it down for me the two cards based on what she liked

Sweets for the Sweet invite

Punch Art Luau Invite (1)

Then asked me which one was harder. She is so sweet. In the end we both decided that the punch art card was just too stinking cute! So we went with it. I know called me crazy, right? But this is my baby and the last one to graduate from high school for us. So why not do it up big….and I knew I had a stamping pal who would be game to help me out.

What does mass assembly luau punch art cards look like? Here are a couple of shots of Cindy and me working on parts of the cards – at least the first 40, LOL. We had a great time visiting and punching together!

Punch Art Luau invite assembly (1)Punch Art Luau invite assembly (2)

My daughter later added another 30 for her friends she’d forgot to put on my list. I didn’t get to take a shot of them all together since I’d already mailed the first group but by then it was quick and easy and I had a lot of fun so I found it a great break and creating them rather relaxing. I know crazy – but they are sooo cute!

Polka Dot Parade Birds

Do you love birds? Do you enjoy watching them? I love it in spring when all of the different birds come to my feeder on their trip north. I especially love to see the flocks of robins looking for worms as they come through. I’m not sure why but I don’t see a lot of them during the year in North Georgia. So their migrating for me they always signal spring has arrived.

Want to make some of your own little Polka Dot Parade of birds that can hang around? Well why not make these cute little Bird Builder Punch clothes pins?

Polka Dot Parade Bird Clothes Pins

They are so simple to make. Just cover the clothes pin, decorate and add a magnet to the back. Voila! You’ve got a cute way to hang notes on your frig or anywhere else you need a reminder.

My friend Cindy gave me this cute little set for my birthday last month. They came in this adorable bag made out of our Polka Dot Parade Designer Series Paper. How cute is that!
