Have you seen the new Carrot Cake M&Ms on the shelf right now for Easter? Well when I saw them last month they really peaked my interest – after all a Carrot Cake M&Ms, that sounds interesting. I figured they could taste really good or really bad right?
Well the bag didn’t sit on my counter long before someone broke them open. The soft colors are really pretty for spring and based on how quickly they disappeared among my clan I’d have to say the vote was that they were pretty good. So out I went to find another bag for this project! LOL
Here is what I came up with after playing around a bit. Of course since they were carrot cake it had to be carrots, right? And I knew that I wanted to use the Eggstra Spectacular Stamp set from the Occasions Catalog – I just love this little set!
I dug though my cabinet and found my cake decorating bags since I figured they were carrot shaped.
I wanted the top to be Gumball Green so I could use the Stitched Satin Ribbon that I love to work with so I debated for a bit on how to accomplish that, but since I wanted the top to be soft like the M&Ms I ended up reaching for my Gumball Green Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill and my Crystal Effects. What the heck it was worth a try.
I started by simply placing a quarter sized spot of Crystal Effects on my pallet and mixing in a few drops of Gumball Green Reinker. I mixed well until I got the color I wanted and applied it to the outside of my bag using a paint brush and allowed it to dry really well. I found a thicker layer was better for my tastes. (Tip: you’ll want to do this on the outside of the bag – not the inside, since some might break off while you fill it or you take the candy out.)
For the focal point I used the images from the Eggstra Spectacular stamp set and colored them as desired. I punched out the image with a 1 3/4″ Circle Punch and placed that onto a circle I cut using the Circles Collection Framelits, and then layered that onto a 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle on which I had paper pieced the scallops. Placed some Linen Thread through one of the holes and tied a knot creating a loop for later.
When I was ready I filled the bag with M&Ms and wrapped a piece of Gumball Green 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around the bag, slipped the ribbon through the loop on my tag and finished my bow. Voila! Here is my first Carrot Treat:
Then I got to thinking – I just got my Fringe Scissors in and so started to play a bit with the top. Here is what that one ended up looking like.
This is one of the first bags I had added the Crystal Effects mixture to and so the color layer wasn’t as thick. But I think the Fringe Scissors adds some whimsy and makes it look a little more realistic. (Tip: you’ll want to do this on the outside of the bag – not the inside since some might break off while you fill it or s you take the candy out.)
What do you think? Which carrot do you like best? Why not leave me a comment and let me know. I love hearing from you and appreciate you taking the time to comment.
