Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder Tutorial

As you know I love to make 3d items and this week’s project is a little gift I’m making for my daughter’s friends at college. When I saw the new Sour Patch gum from Stride on a recent trip to town I just knew I had to come up with something.

Stride Gum for Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder (1)

Screams Daffodil Delight, right? And I immediately saw that it would coordinate with our Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper from the Occasions Catalog and of course, I’ve been itching to do more stamping with the cute little Eggstra Spectacular stamp set too!

So here is what I came up with –

Stride Gum for Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder (2)

Wonder where I got the Scallop Oval? I’ll show you how I made this in my video – you won’t believe how simple it is!

And I’ve got two Video Tutorials to share with you today!

Not one, but two you may ask? Why?

Well, I ended up doing a fun technique with the image and thought you’d like to see how it was done too. And since my internet is a little funky out here in the sticks, shorter videos are a bit easier to upload for me when it’s windy. (Don’t ask – crazy I know!)  I figure streaming is easier for you too – right? Less buffering, etc. LOL

Do you like shorter videos or would you prefer to see just one longer video? Leave me a comment and let me know what you prefer. I always love to hear feedback from you – it also helps me know if someone is out there in cyber land listening – lol!

Watch the Easter Mini File Folder Gum Holder Video Tutorial firsts to see how you make and assemble the treat holder itself.

Then watch my Two Tone Embossing Technique Video to see how the focal point is created with our fun colors of Stampin’ Emboss Powder!

Here is the supply list for the project –

Simply Elegant Bows Video Tutorial

Last week I shared a sympathy card that I needed for a friend that had a simply elegant bow. I’ve needed several more sympathy cards again this week and so although the card is the same layout I’ve switched out the image for this one – I think I like this one the best. (I’ve had blueberries on the brain since they need fertilizing so maybe that is why.)

Simply Sketched Simply Elegant Bows Video Tutorial

Anyhow, some of you have asked me how this bow was made and so I thought I would create a quick video tutorial for you. These bows are so easy to make that you’ll find yourself using them time and again on your projects. And since they are flat they are great for mailing too.

So here is my Simply Elegant Bows Video Tutorial

Slip Free Yarn Hangers

Today’s post is one that is a non stamping project, but I thought you may enjoy it. Lately I’ve had several people ask me to share how I make these Slip Free Yarn Hangers that I’ve made for family and friends. So I thought to myself it would be easier to show you with a video tutorial.

DSC01096

These slip free yarn hangers are easy to make, use up those left over skeins I’ve got laying around the house, and keep my hands busy so I don’t snack while watching TV at night! (My weight loss program at its finest since late night snacking is a tough one for me – LOL)

My daughter has recently discovered the benefits of these after she took her batch that I made as a Christmas gift to college. No more tank tops on the floor of her college closet. She has recently said to me  “These are great. Can you make me another 20?”

So I’m looking for more of those wire hangers. The biggest problem I have is finding two that are the size shape and size hiding in my stash.

Hope you enjoy my tutorial. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. And if you make some – why not share your creations with me on my Facebook page? I’d love to see your slip free yarn hangers!

I simply stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso, but think it would look great using the Early Espresso Embossing Powder too and add a bit of texture to the card. I love the quick and easy banners that you can make using the Hexagon punch (130919). Yes, you heard me right the Hexagon Punch. Give it a try, you’ll find it so easy to do.

Snow Storm – Day 3

Snow Storm Feb 13 2014 Day 3

Well the storm has now moved up the east coast and has pretty much finished for us in the North Georgia mountains. The sun has come out and the temperature has started to climb a bit – which is a good thing since things are clearly starting to melt.

We woke to more snow this morning. After sleeting most of the day yesterday, snow is a good thing. We’ve got a snow sandwich on the ground (snow, ice, snow) LOL. But we have fared pretty well so far, our power only flickered off once last night.

Now the cabin fever has set in for my guys and they are itching to get out of the house. I don’t tend to get as antsy since there is always something to do. Of course, it is a great reason to go play in my kitchen and stamp room too!

Quick and Easy Vegetable Beef Soup

This mornings project was a big pot of soup for lunch for my guys. It’s great since I can use the frozen tomatoes from our garden last summer and the ground venison in the freezer. It smells heavenly while it is cooking, and even though I can’t eat it, I enjoy making it for them. They say it tastes great – so I thought I’d share the recipe with you in case you’re looking for a quick and easy vegetable soup.

Quick & Easy Vegetable Beef Soup

1 1/2 – 2 lbs. lean ground beef

1 onion, chopped

1 ½ c. water

2 (28 oz.) cans diced tomatoes

1 ½ tsp. garlic powder

1 ½ tsp. sea salt, to taste

½ tsp. dried basil

½ tsp. finely ground black pepper, or to taste

3 ½ tsp. beef bouillon

2 (12 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables

Cook and stir ground beef in the pot until completely browned, 7 to 10 minutes. Stir onion into the meat and continue to cook and stir until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Drain fat from the pot and return to medium heat.

Pour water and tomatoes into the pot. Season soup with garlic powder, sea salt, basil, and black pepper. Stir beef bouillon through the soup. Add frozen mixed vegetables to the pot, stir.

Bring the soup to a boil; reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are cooked through, 20 – 30 minutes.

That’s it – Enjoy!

This recipe is pretty forgiving and so I’ve experimented a bit with the original recipe I found on allrecipes.com. This one is my version of the original with the changes I’ve made. So far my substitution or changes have made it even better. I find you can really change things out easily to suit your preferences. I think I’ll be freezing okra next year to add to the other vegetables. The guys seem to like that and I never know what to do with all the extra okra from the garden.

Paper Pumpkin Special (Free 2012-2014 In Color Markers when you join now through March 31st, 2014)

Hello, Lovely

Today’s card is one that I made in my Leadership Shoebox Swap last month and it uses the Hello, Lovely stamp set from the 2013 Catalog (page 22). I thought Janeen Mack created such a cool card and it was a lot of fun making it’s focal point – a low profile shaker.

Hello, Lovely Leadership Swap 2014 Low Profile Shaker Frame

This card was fairly simple to make, although it does have a lot of parts to it.

It starts with a Coastal Cabana card base and a layer of Chocolate Chip card stock that has been embossed with the Stripes Embossing folder. On top of that is the low profile shaker filled with some small hearts punched from coordinating card stock and some little arrows that have been stamped and cut out with Paper Snips.

Next comes the Chocolate Chip die cut letters spelling out the word “LOVE” that have been added with small pieces of Stampin’ Dimensions. Then two more of the little arrows stamped and cut out added to the letters with some more small pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals. And a little sparkle is added with the two Rhinestones.

The final step is the sentiment, stamped in Chocolate Chip, and cut out with Paper Snips. Added to the bottom is a little piece of Coastal Cabana Ruffle Stretch Trim to finish it off.

Isn’t it just too cute?

I’ve modified how I make this shaker frame slightly from the way Janeen did it, to make it a bit easier for me, and hopefully for you too! Want to know how the low profile shaker frame is made? It’s so simple really – why not watch my video tutorial to show you how?

Easy, right?

Did you hear my four legged kid in the background? That was Chewie. I’m not sure what got into her, but for some reason Chewie felt the need to make sure all those “awful” robins stayed out of her yard while I was videoing – LOL.

I hope you enjoyed the video – Can you see all kinds of possibilities for these low profile shaker frames with all the different shape Framelits we have available? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Stamp Set: Hello, Lovely (130240/130243)
