Throw Back Thursday with Healing Hugs

Recently I found some cards that I haven’t shared with you on my desk so today I’m beginning to share a series of tutorials I’ll be calling Throw Back Thursday since they highlight something you might already have in your craft supplies. They also include new products found in my Online Store.

One of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! is their product coordination and these project will show you just how easy it is to coordinate the old with the new.

Since it’s that time of year I thought I’d stare with the Healing & Hugs stamp set since we all have someone we know who might be feeling under the weather during cold and flu season.

This set contains cute little animals so it was one I definitely wanted to add to my collection. I’ve teamed it up with our fun Brights Designer Series Paper Assortment (165301) and used one of my favorite colors, Coastal Cabana.

Want to see how I created this card? Why not check out my video tutorial and PDF with the measurements and supply list.

Easter Basket

Love fun little techniques that step up your projects? How about an Embossing Folder technique that is quick and simple to do that has been used on this card?

Today’s card uses the Easter Basket Bundle (166947) to create this card. It also uses a technique of adding ink to the debossed side of the folder to add color.

How do you do that? It’s simple – you’ll want to use your Classic Ink pad or a brayer to add color to the inside of your embossing folder and then run it through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss as normal. Clean up is easy simply run water over the inside and allow it to dry.

This creates a colorful background for your project. In addition to the All in a Row Embossing Folder (166989). This card also uses a watercolor wash for the bunny to create a soft feel. Simple stamping was used for the eggs and sentiment. And of course a bit of Bubble Bath Faux Linen Ribbon (167075) adds a bit of texture to the card and a fun detail.

So what do you think? Want to try this simple technique to add color to your embossing folders? While it can be a bit messy if you’re not careful it is a lot of fun!

Sweet Bugs

Love cute little cards that spread joy and maybe our desire for warmer weather while we sit in this deep freeze? Why not check out the Sweet Bugs stamp set (166995)?

The set is filled with cute little images that would make anyone smile and has some fun little sentiments too. And it is also found in a Suite of products, Cute as a Bug Suite (167007) so it has tons of coordinating products you can use to create.

Today’s card uses this fun little parade of bugs to create it’s focal point to spread some joy.

The parade has been colored using our Old Olive, Real Red and Daffodil Delight Classic Inks and Blender Pens (102845) to give them a soft watercolor look. And it has been mounted on the card front that highlights the colorful Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper (166994). And finally Ladybug Garden Epoxy Shapes (167005) has been used, a few clear dots one of the cute little ladybugs add a bit of shine.

Have you used Blender Pens? If not they are easy to use and add value to your Classic Ink Pads. Using them is simple – simply press a bit of ink onto the lid of the pad, or Clear Block and lift it with the Blender Pen and start coloring. The amount of ink on the tip will a variety of shades for that color. And as you use the ink the color will soften giving you this fun watercolor look and shades of the same ink. Practice a bit on your Grid Paper to see what you like. I think once you try this simple technique you’ll enjoy coloring small images like this.

I just love the color pallet chosen of Basic Beige, Pretty Peacock and Old Olive. And since it has been stamped on our Very Vanilla Card stock (166784) it gives a softer earthier feel to the images stamped.

The sentiment has been stamped and then fussy cut and mounted onto another fussy cut piece of Pretty Peacock to create a mat or shadow effect. A bit of our Linen Thread (104199) has been looped a couple of times and placed behind the sentiment. And finally a couple of patterns of the beautiful Nature Walk Designer Series Paper (166912) has been used to pull all the colors together and create a lovely backdrop for the image.

If you haven’t used our Very Vanilla Card stock you’ll want to be sure to give it a try for cards like this. I especially love using this paper to create a softer feel and my fall and winter cards when the Basic White feels a bit stark.

Unbridled Beauty

Are you a fan of horses? I know my sister loved them as a child and had plastic ones that were about 8 inches or so that she played with all the time. As she got older we got a Shetland pony that would pick up a bottle and drink it which I thought was pretty cool. Later she taught me how to ride and she went on to do some competitions. So every time I see a beautiful stamp set with horses like the Unbridled Beauty stamp set (Online Exclusive 167219) I think of her and those childhood memories.

Today’s card uses this lovely set to create a card that with it’s sentiment could be used as a Valentine’s Day card for that special someone.

Done in shades of browns it has a wonderfully natural feel to it I think. The strip of the Nature Walk Designer Series Paper (166912) and fun little Faux Bronze Pentagons (166931) add some depth and texture to the card.

So what do you think? Do you love horses or know someone who does? Or maybe just love to create with sets that make you think of the country and a slower pace. If so you might enjoy adding this set to your collection this spring. Why not stop by my Online Store and check these products out? We’ve got lots of goodies to inspire you.

Fun Shutter Card for Valentine’s Day

Today’s card is a Shutter Card. Have you made one of these cards before? They look difficult but really aren’t. With just a few strips of paper you create a fun look.

Check out today’s card that uses this fun technique

along with the Hope Love & Joy stamp set (166855) that has been used to create a card filled with love.

This set allows you to build words the way you’d like. Today’s card uses the heart and pull the “you” from another set such as Reason to Celebrate (166905). A bit of fussy cutting allows you to add it t to complete the message.

Team it up with your favorite paper like this card does. The Florals in Bloom Designer Series Paper (165175) has such beautiful floral images and the colors are perfect for this Valentine’s Day card.

Now, want to know how that fun shutter look is created? Simply stamp your sentiment onto your card stock the size you’d like and adhere it down onto the larger panel. Then use your strips on each side of the sentiment panel, starting at the left edge and running off the edge. Repeat on the next side moving clock wise until all four sides are finished. (The floral Designer Series Paper is really just one larger piece although it doesn’t look like it when you’re done.) Voila!

If you’d like to see my Card that I created and shared with you using the technique why not check out my tutorial HERE? It even includes a video for you.

Enjoy!
